How much does a website cost?

A few quick questions and you'll have a number to plan around. Every choice shows what it adds before you pick it, so you can see which parts of your own brief are the expensive ones. Then book a call and the ballpark becomes a quote.

What are we building?
New, or a redesign?

Everything designed and built from the ground up.

How many different page designs?

A design is a layout, drawn once and reused. One service-page design can carry twenty service pages, so count designs here and every page in the next step. For a site like this: Home, a service page, about, team, contact, an article.

How many pages in total, across the whole site?

All twenty service pages, every team bio, each article you launch with. The first 10 are part of the build; past that, each one has a small setup cost unless the words are being written or moved anyway.

How involved is each page?
Who's handling the words for those 12 pages?

Here the total page count is what matters: words are written and moved one page at a time.

Ballpark, not a quote. The estimate I write for you after we talk is the only number a project is held to.

How the number is built

The same way I build a quote

Every website starts from a base: the design, the build, a CMS you can edit and a launch. Then the things that genuinely change the work get added on, one line at a time.

Designs first, then pages

A page design is a layout, drawn and built once. Pages are what get made from it, so twenty service pages on one design cost far less than twenty designs. The total page count matters for the words and the setup.

How much is on them

A page of text and a photo is quick. A long page with interactive pieces, data or illustration takes real time, so it's priced as a share of the design and build.

The words, page by page

Writing or moving content is priced per page across the whole site. If you're supplying the words, the first ten pages are part of the build and each one after that has a small setup cost.

Each extra on its own

A store, a members area and a booking form are different amounts of work, so each one carries its own price. Anything your kind of site already needs is included.

A redesign starts ahead

Building on a structure and content that already exist takes some of the work out, and a redirect map makes sure the rankings you've earned come with you.

Rush, when you need it

25% more takes 25% off the timeline, on any size of build. It works as long as approvals on your side keep the same pace.

Questions

Things people ask about the number

How accurate is this?
It's a ballpark, built piece by piece from current market rates for each part of the work. A real estimate comes after a call, when I know what content exists, what has to move over and who has to approve things. That estimate is the only number a project is held to.
What does rush mean here?
The whole timeline shortened by 25%, for 25% more, on any size of build. The premium pays for clearing other work to make room, and it only works if approvals on your side keep pace.
What isn't in the number?
Logos, which have their own ranges on the logo and branding page, plus print and email. Photography, paid ads, your domain, and the monthly care fee that covers hosting, backups and support after launch.
Why a range and not a price?
Each piece has a low and a high, because the same feature can be a few days of work or a couple of weeks depending on what's behind it. A booking form that drops into a calendar isn't a booking system with rooms, staff and reminders. The call works out which one you need and turns every line into a number.
